    Why did you choose pediatrics? I chose pediatrics largely from growing up with a sister who has special needs. I can make a positive impact on children's lives and am inspired by their resilience. Children have an amazing way of bouncing back from illness while inspiring those around them to continue to love life and explore the world with enthusiasm.

  • Chelsea Banks, MD

    Personal interests? Running, reading, skiing, and simply spending time with my family outdoors

    Professional interests? Newborn care, nutrition & growth, cross-cultural medicine

    Favorite book(s)? The Little Prince (Antoine de Saint-Exupery) is such a wonderful, silly book on childhood. A recent favorite is A Man Called Ove (Frederik Backman).

    Kids? A dog named Bugaboo and a cat named Luna.

    Why did you chose pediatrics? I chose pediatrics for the strength and resilience children have even in the face of illness as well as the chance to work with whole families together. Plus, we are lucky in that we get to see our patients grow up!

    Personal Interests? I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 lovely well trained German Shepherds, cooking, fishing, and anything Alaska.

    Why I chose pediatrics? I was exposed at an early age to the medical field and care of children. My mom was a kindergarten teacher and my dad was an OB/GYN. I feel I was destined to follow their footsteps. So, I decided to combine their passions and become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. PLUS: Kids are fun, honest, and full of life.

    Why did you choose pediatrics?: I knew I wanted to be a pediatric nurse from the age of 10 years old. Preventive medicine is essential, and it is a gift to be able build relationships with families as you participate in the health and blossoming of their children. Kids are amazing, funny, and you get to play with them all day!

    Favorite Book(s)? “Gratitude” by Oliver Sachs, anything by Atul Gawande, “The Milepost” (extremely useful not only to drive through the Yukon, but also to explore Alaska)

    Kids? I have a ninety-pound fur baby!

    Why did you choose pediatrics? Kids are extremely resilient, and they have such a unique outlook on life! I love playing a role in fostering children’s growth and arming families with tools to set their children up for success in the future.

    Favorite Book(s)? I love reading with my kids so it’s hard to narrow it down. Pancakes for Breakfast, Frog Goes to Dinner, The Runaway Bunny, Little Bear’s Visit, Annie and the Wild Animals, and I Can Fly are some favorites in our house right now. I can’t wait until my boys are big enough to read Matilda, The Secret Garden, and Harry Potter!

    Why did you choose pediatrics? Because kids are so authentic and fun! And I continue to love it because I get to support parents in their most important and sometimes most challenging job in hopes of setting children up for healthy, happy futures!

    Why did you choose pediatrics? I actually didn't intend to do pediatrics. But as soon as I got to medical school and did my pediatrics rotation it was “love at first sight.” Kids are so smart and so funny. They make me laugh everyday!

    Why did you choose pediatrics? I love kids!!! I was that kid that loved babysitting and taking care of younger kids. I fell in love with science in high school and thought I might like to become a scientist. However, in college working in a lab without people was not a fit. I decided to go into medicine to study science and work with people. Pediatrics is a combination of all the things I love.

    Why I chose pediatrics? As a pediatrician I am humbled to play a role in helping children and families through both exciting and challenging times. I cherish the opportunity to make a difference in a child and family's life. Not to mention kids are just so fun, genuine, and resilient!

    Why did you choose pediatrics? Of all the jobs a person can have, I believe that parenting is the most important, challenging and underrated job. I truly enjoy the opportunity to work with parents to navigate and find solutions for the many challenges that come with raising tiny humans!
